Putting Your Best Impression On Paper!
“Wow, you make me look so good!!”, a typical response after working with an Elite Dental Assisting student on their resume. Everyone has their own unique qualities, so it’s a matter of making those qualities shine without all the fluff and filler!
Having been a business woman for more than 40 years, I concur with the statistics showing the average employer only spends a few seconds looking at a resume before deciding whether to continue reading or tossing it. Visual first impressions are imperative! If you want your resume to have a good chance of being read, you must invest time and energy not only in its content, but also in its look!
Elite Dental Assisting Academy recognizes that for many of our students, this will be the first time they’ve ever prepared a resume and cover letter, so we work personally with each student to create a superior resume that not only looks stellar, but highlights their abilities that target getting them a job as a Dental Assistant.
Five of the most common mistakes on resumes that I’ve personally experienced have been:
- Typo’s and grammatical errors (i dont no whut ur tak’n about???)
- Length (toooooo much information!!!)
- Personal Information (“uh, people tell me I have BO so I’ll try to remember to shower every day….”)
- Lies (seriously??? your Mom never taught you that lies always come back to bite you???)
We have a professional who personally reviews and formats each resume to make sure they are clean, simple, beautiful, and carefully edited!
Many people are a bit confused as to the difference in sending a resume versus a CV (Curriculum Vitae). The simple explanation is: a resume is a general and concise introduction of your experiences and skills as they relate to a particular career or position that you are aiming to acquire. A CV is a complex overview of your life’s accomplishments in greater detail, usually several pages in length.
By the time our students finish this course, they will stand a little bit taller, having confidence and the tools to go forward into an exciting new career!
